East Bay Regional Park District Acquires 190 Acres Near Concord for Open Space Expansion
The East Bay Regional Park District has acquired approximately 190 acres of parkland next to Thurgood Marshall Regional Park, funded by $165,000 from Measure WW for closing costs and initial safety improvements. This land, consisting of grasslands, oak woodlands, riparian areas, and a pond, enhances connectivity and protects open space in eastern Contra Costa County.
The properties, donated by West Coast Home Builders Inc. as part of a mitigation agreement under the East Contra Costa Habitat Conservation Plan, link former Concord Naval Weapons Station lands with the Upper Hess Creek Watershed. The acquisition supports long-term conservation goals and potential connections between Thurgood Marshall Regional Park and Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve. The land will remain in land bank status while public access and cleanup are evaluated.
