The US Energy Information Agency (EIA) forecasts a 1% increase in electricity demand in 2023 and 3% in 2027, the largest growth since 2000, largely driven by data centers. American Electric Power anticipates load additions will rise significantly, with 80% attributed to data centers, while solar power generation is expected to increase by 21% in 2026 and 2027 due to new capacity. Meanwhile, coal generation is projected to decline by 9% in 2026 as natural gas output reaches 109 billion cubic feet per day.
