El Paso Corp. to Build $1.6 Billion Offshore Gas Pipeline from Nova Scotia to US

El Paso Corp. is set to build the $1.6 billion Blue Atlantic Transmission System, a 750-mile subsea pipeline from Nova Scotia to the northeastern US, designed to transport up to 1 billion cubic feet of gas per day. The project, driven by increased drilling near Sable Island and rising demand for natural gas, is expected to begin permitting by the end of 2002 and become operational by Q4 2005, also enhancing gas access in Nova Scotia's southwestern region.
