El Paso Electric Proposes $473 Million Gas Plant for Meta Data Center
NATURAL GASDATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE
El Paso Electric is proposing a $473 million natural gas plant to support Meta's data center operations, which has seen its investment grow to $1.5 billion. The 366-megawatt McCloud facility, designed to be operational by 2027, will initially supply power exclusively to Meta, prompting City Council intervention due to concerns over costs and environmental impact. The plant will feature 813 modular gas generators and will be financed through a combination of operations, equity, and debt to prevent cost increases for regular customers.
