Environmentalists Warn of Algal Reef Damage from Guantang LNG Terminal in Taiwan
NATURAL GAS
Environmentalists are raising alarms about significant damage to the algal reef near the Guantang LNG terminal in Taiwan, where crustose coralline algae coverage has plummeted from 84% to 10% since 2019. They attribute the degradation to construction activities, while CPC Corp acknowledges seasonal climate impacts and has pledged to cooperate with investigations. Research suggests that rising sea temperatures and increased turbidity may also be contributing factors to the coral decline.
