EOD's Support Role for Secret Service and Presidential Security Since 1958
DEFENSE
The collaboration between Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and the Secret Service began in 1958, initially providing bomb tech expertise for presidential public appearances. Over the decades, EOD units from various locations have supported the Secret Service, with formal directives for VIP protection established in 2007.
The only EOD fatality occurred in 1976 during a campaign event, leading to enhanced safety protocols. Recent legislation aims to ensure equal protection for major presidential candidates.
