EPA Plans Cleanup of Contaminated Sanders Beach Lots in Pensacola, Florida
DEFENSE
The EPA is set to begin the cleanup of toxic soil at the American Creosote Works site in Pensacola's Sanders Beach this summer. Despite $40 million allocated for the project, an additional $8.6 million is needed for full remediation.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will start accepting bids for residential lot clean-ups in March, with work anticipated to commence in June or July. The city envisions transforming the site into a park, although land ownership complications remain.
