EPRI Launches RADAR Initiative to Enhance Grid Resilience Post-2025 Iberian Blackout
EPRI has launched the Rapid Adaptation of Grid Defense, Analytics, and Resilience (RADAR) initiative following the 2025 Iberian blackout, which underscored the need for improved monitoring and control of evolving grid conditions. The initiative aims to modernize the electric sector's approach to detecting and responding to emerging risks over the next 15 years, as global power systems transition to more dynamic grids with increased inverter-based and distributed resources.
Founding members include Duke Energy, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, France's RTE, and Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE). RADAR focuses on developing frameworks, tools, and training to enhance grid reliability and resilience amid growing complexity, supporting grid operators in managing new challenges posed by renewable resources and large-scale loads.
