Estonia to Enhance Defense Capabilities Amidst Deteriorating Security Situation
DEFENSE
Estonian Defense Forces Commander Lt. Gen. Andrus Merilo stated that the pre-war peace in Ukraine is unlikely to return.
Estonia plans to procure new naval vessels, reorganize conscription, and build a new military base. From 2027, conscripts will serve for 12 months, and their allowances will increase by 30%. The defense budget will rise to €2.8 billion by 2026. Additionally, Estonia will allocate 0.25% of GDP to support Ukraine next year.
