Finnish Defence Forces to Acquire Anti-Personnel Landmines Following Treaty Withdrawal

DEFENSE

The Finnish Defence Forces will begin acquiring anti-personnel landmines and training military personnel following the country's withdrawal from the Ottawa Anti-Personnel Landmines Convention. The initiative aims to enhance defense capabilities, with training set to commence in early 2026 and the development of new mines in collaboration with the domestic defense industry anticipated by 2027. The use of these mines will be governed by strict guidelines to minimize civilian harm.
