Fire Outbreak at Gombe Timber Market Causes Significant Property Damage

On December 15, 2025, a fire outbreak occurred at the Timber Market in Gombe Metropolis, Gombe State, triggered by an electrical spark. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were reported, but the damage to goods and properties is estimated to be worth millions of naira.

An ongoing assessment is being conducted to determine the total number of affected traders. NEMA coordinated emergency responses with the Federal Fire Service, Gombe State Fire Service, and Gombe State University Fire Unit, which helped contain the fire.

Additional support was provided by various agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army. NEMA emphasized the importance of adhering to fire safety measures to prevent future incidents.
