Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, the first female governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, has passed away. Serving as the 14th governor from January 2006, she was recognized for her significant contributions to the country's economy and financial management, as well as her role in promoting regional economic cooperation during her tenure with the United Nations ESCAP. Condolences have been expressed by President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, who acknowledged her invaluable services to Pakistan.
