Fort Bragg's 2nd Security Force Assistance Brigade Inactivated; Army Plans Further Restructuring
The 2nd Security Force Assistance Brigade (SFAB) at Fort Bragg inactivated on November 26, 2025. The U.S. Army plans to cut 32,000 jobs in 2024 as part of a force restructuring effort, impacting security force assistance brigades.
Following guidance to consolidate commands, the Security Force Assistance Command Headquarters is set to inactivate in 2026. The newly activated U.S. Army Western Hemisphere Command at Fort Bragg will absorb functions from the Security Force Assistance Command.
This restructuring allows for the redistribution of about 550 non-commissioned officers and officers into core combat formations. The Army has also planned closures of additional SFABs, including the 4th SFAB based in Fort Carson and the National Guard's 54th SFAB, with no specific timelines announced. The brigades were originally established to support U.S. combat operations abroad, with various SFABs aligned to different geographic commands.
