Fort Worth Begins Construction on Panther Island Bypass Channel Amid Federal Funding Challenges
DEFENSE
Construction on the northern section of the Panther Island bypass channel, part of a $1.16 billion flood control project, is set to start late this year after previous delays caused by federal funding disputes. The overall initiative is expected to meet its completion target of 2032. The Tarrant Regional Water District is seeking $543 million in federal funding to continue with remaining projects, including the southern bypass channel, with plans to finalize contracts by next year.
