Fortune Minerals has successfully validated a hydrometallurgical flowsheet for producing battery grade cobalt sulphate at its NICO project in Canada's Northwest Territories, which also holds significant reserves of bismuth and gold. The company secured C$7.5 million from Canada and $6.38 million from the US Department of Defense in 2024 to boost cobalt production, with plans for an open pit, underground mine, and a refinery in Alberta.
