Fountain Nears 50-Year Water Agreement for Venetucci Farm Wells
The city of Fountain is poised to finalize a 50-year agreement to extract water from the Venetucci Farm, potentially supplying resources equivalent to 2,000 new homes. The deal would enable Fountain to access wells drawing from the Widefield Aquifer, which are replenishable, unlike other local sources.
Following a contamination incident involving PFAS, the U.S. Air Force funded a filtration facility for Security Water District, which now processes the well water. The existing groundwater agreement allocates 10% of the wells’ output to Fountain, while Security and Widefield receive 45% each.
Security has proposed transferring a majority of its water access to Fountain, which is actively seeking additional supplies. With the new contract, by 2030, Fountain could increase its share to 38.6%, providing 521 acre-feet of water, aiding in new development requests. The city council is currently considering rules for water allocation between residential, commercial, and industrial uses.
