Gastrade to Decide on Second FSRU in Dedeağaç by 2026
Gastrade will make a final decision in 2026 regarding the construction of a second floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) for LNG in Dedeağaç. The project, named 'Thrace FSRU,' aims to create an additional LNG entry point, with operations expected to commence in 2028 if investment is approved.
The estimated cost for the second unit is at least €650 million, significantly higher than the first FSRU's €490 million investment, and no grants are anticipated. The decision will hinge on market demand, LNG transport costs to Europe, and securing long-term capacity contracts. The existing Dedeağaç FSRU is expected to handle 20 LNG cargoes this year, increasing to 40 next year, with plans to boost its capacity to 6-6.5 billion cubic meters.
