German Researchers Develop Ultrafast Optical Switch Using Hybrid Nanostructure
QUANTUM COMPUTING
German researchers led by Professor Dr. Christoph Lienau at the University of Oldenburg have developed an ultrafast optical switch using a hybrid nanostructure that combines silver and a three-atom-thick layer of tungsten disulphide. This device can switch at speeds approximately 10,000 times faster than traditional transistors, manipulating reflective properties within femtoseconds and showing promise for applications in optical data processing, chip manufacturing, and quantum computing.
