GlobalConnect Launches First Quantum-Secure Network for Akershus University Hospital in Norway

QUANTUM COMPUTING

GlobalConnect has initiated a pilot project to establish a quantum-secure network for Akershus University Hospital near Oslo, marking the first such implementation in the Nordics. In partnership with Norsk helsenett, the project aims to protect sensitive health data from future quantum computer threats.

The network employs Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) technology, allowing secure key exchanges based on physical laws, making it resilient to eavesdropping. This pilot, running until April 2027, will enhance knowledge and practical experience in quantum security, potentially leading to broader adoption within the Norwegian healthcare sector. Experts warn that quantum computers could compromise current encryption within the next decade, highlighting the need for proactive quantum-safe measures in data-sensitive sectors like healthcare.
