Governments Endorse Florence Declaration to Accelerate Global Geothermal Energy Development

GEOTHERMAL

Governments have agreed to collaborate on measures to expedite geothermal energy development worldwide, as outlined in the 'Florence Declaration' from the Global Geothermal Alliance (GGA) meeting in Florence. The meeting highlighted a report from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) identifying access to capital and regulatory transparency as key barriers to geothermal advancement.

Italy's Environment Minister Gian Luca Galletti emphasized the importance of renewable energy for sustainable development, while Vice Minister Teresa Bellanova noted geothermal energy's potential for job creation. The African Union's Dr.

Amani Abou-Zeid mentioned ongoing projects in East Africa aimed at generating over 1500 MW of geothermal power. The GGA aims for a 500% increase in global geothermal capacity and a 200% increase in geothermal heating by 2030.
