Guyana's GTE Project to Reach 300MW Capacity by Mid-2027, Delaying Electricity Cost Reductions

NATURAL GAS

The Gas-to-Energy (GTE) project in Guyana will not achieve its full capacity of 300 megawatts until mid-2027, according to consultant Winston Brassington. The initial output will be 228MW from four gas turbines by the end of 2026.

The project's timeline raises concerns over the government's promise to cut electricity costs by 50%. Additionally, Phase Two of the GTE project is set to begin this year, which includes an expansion to 600MW and various industrial developments in the Wales Development Zone.
