Hokkaido Electric Power Launches 50MW Tomato Biomass Plant in Japan
BIOPOWERCARBON CAPTURE
Hokkaido Electric Power announced the start of operations for its 50MW Tomato biomass plant in Hokkaido, Japan, on 13 February. The facility will utilize around 200,000 tons of wood pellets per year, primarily sourced from Vietnam and Indonesia, to generate up to 340GWh of electricity annually.
The energy will be sold under Japan's feed-in tariff scheme at a fixed rate for 20 years. The plant is operated by a joint venture, with plans for carbon capture technology by 2030-31.
