India Aims for Solar Self-Sufficiency by 2026 with Increased PLI Support in Budget
SOLAR ENERGY
India aims to achieve solar self-sufficiency by 2026, focusing on all aspects of solar manufacturing from polysilicon to finished panels, as part of its strategy to reach net-zero emissions by 2070. With plans to increase Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) support and expedite project approvals, domestic player INA Solar is expanding its capacity from 1.53 GW to 7 GW, despite ongoing reliance on imports for key materials. The upcoming budget is expected to bolster these initiatives, highlighting renewable energy's critical role in India's future power generation, which currently stands at approximately 462 GW.
