The Indian government has expedited the Sawalkot Hydroelectric Project on the Chenab River in Jammu and Kashmir, following the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan. NHPC has issued a Rs 5,129 crore tender for the project, which aims to generate 1,856 MW. The project includes two phases and is expected to take about nine years for completion, contributing significantly to the region's energy security amid ongoing tensions.
