India Launches DHRUV64, Its First Indigenous 64-Bit Dual-Core Microprocessor

DEFENSE

India has introduced the DHRUV64, its first indigenous 64-bit dual-core microprocessor, marking a significant advancement in the country's semiconductor and chip design capabilities. DHRUV64 aims to enhance self-reliance in semiconductor manufacturing under initiatives like Atmanirbhar Bharat and the Indian Semiconductor Mission (ISM).

This new processor replaces DHRUV32 and signifies a shift towards advanced multi-core processing. DHRUV64 will reduce India's reliance on imported semiconductors, providing strategic advantages such as a resilient supply chain and enhanced digital sovereignty for government and defense sectors.

The development of DHRUV64 builds on previous Indian processors like SHAKTI, VIKRAM, and THEJAS64, and positions India for future innovations with plans for DHANUSH64 and DHANUSH64+ SoCs. The project addresses the need for secure, reliable computing technologies and aims to establish a robust semiconductor design ecosystem in India.
