India has introduced its first national policy on geothermal energy, aiming to harness the country's estimated 10 GW potential. The policy outlines incentives such as tax breaks and concessional loans to encourage development while promoting joint ventures with oil and gas companies.

Five pilot projects have been sanctioned, focusing on utilizing abandoned oil wells and geothermal cooling systems. The initiative is part of India's broader goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2070 and enhance its renewable energy mix.
