Indonesia Seizes 4 Million Hectares of Resources Amid Governance Campaign

DEFENSE

Indonesia has seized over 4 million hectares of land as part of a governance campaign led by Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, targeting plantations and mining concessions linked to corruption. The campaign, which has imposed approximately $2.26 billion in fines on major companies, has transferred much of the confiscated land to state-owned Agrinas Palma Nusantara, now the largest palm oil operator globally. This initiative raises concerns about potential long-term impacts on domestic and global supply chains for essential commodities like coal, palm oil, and nickel.
