INPEX and Osaka Gas have launched demonstration operations at a large-scale methanation facility in Niigata Prefecture, Japan. The facility has a capacity of 400 Nm3-CO2 per hour, equivalent to the annual gas consumption of about 10,000 households.

Construction began in 2023, supported by a subsidy from NEDO. The facility achieved its technical target with a 96% methane concentration during trials and received certification as a clean gas production plant in January 2026.
