Ipswich Council Opens New Depot and Advances Community Initiatives

DEFENSE

Ipswich Borough Council (IBC) has opened a new depot for approximately 250 staff involved in waste and housing maintenance, achieving an 'Outstanding' environmental sustainability rating. The site features EV charging infrastructure to support the council's electric vehicle transition, including trials of three fully electric bin lorries aimed at reaching carbon neutrality by 2030.

In July-August 2025, police increased foot patrols by 1,700 hours, resulting in arrests and weapon seizures. IBC is funding three Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) to enhance community policing, which has reportedly reduced crime in the town centre.

Additionally, the University’s Dental Community Interest Company (CIC) aims to expand patient care from 4,000 to 18,000 annually. IBC has completed 150 council housing units with sustainable features as part of an £80 million investment. The refurbishment of the Regent Theatre and the opening of the Portal sculpture are also key cultural initiatives.
