ITAK Requests MP Shritharan Resignation from Constitutional Council Over Military Appointment Controversy
DEFENSE
The Illankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi (ITAK) has called for MP Sivagnanam Shritharan to resign from the Constitutional Council due to his support for the military appointment of O. R. Rajasinghe as Auditor General.
ITAK General Secretary M. A. Sumanthiran emphasized concerns over Shritharan's endorsement of militarization, while former Human Rights Commissioner Ambika Satkunanathan criticized his vote as contradictory to his stated opposition to military influence in state institutions. This incident follows the rejection of Rajasinghe's nomination, marking the fourth unsuccessful appointment for the position under President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
