DEFENSE
Italy has initiated the procurement process for two next-generation DDX/DDG destroyers with a budget of approximately €2.7 billion, excluding VAT, set to commence on 18 February 2026. This initiative, managed by OCCAR and involving Orizzonte Sistemi Navali as the primary industrial partner, aims to enhance Italy's air-defense capabilities by replacing older vessels and follows a previous contract focused on design and risk reduction. The DDX destroyers will build upon the FREMM EVO design, ensuring technological evolution throughout their service life.
