Katsina State Launches 1MW Danja Mini-Hydroelectric Power Project to Boost Rural Electrification
Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has inaugurated the 1-Megawatt Danja Mini-Hydroelectric Power Project at Danja Dam, aimed at enhancing rural electrification and economic growth. The project will provide electricity for milling, processing, and storage facilities to reduce post-harvest losses for farmers.
It is part of a broader strategy to utilize existing water infrastructure for sustainable energy, with plans to replicate similar projects at other dams in the state. The initiative is a collaboration between the Katsina State Government, Oceans Énergie, and the French Treasury, aligning with the Electricity Act 2023.
The project aims to support irrigation, agro-processing, and social services while creating jobs and improving living standards. It is expected to deliver year-round electricity to Danja, Kafur, and neighboring communities, alleviating pressure on the national grid and enhancing local economic growth.
