KenGen Pursues 200 Megawatts from Wind Power in Marsabit to Meet Growing Electricity Demand
GEOTHERMAL
KenGen is seeking an additional 200 megawatts of wind power in Marsabit County to address the escalating electricity demand in Kenya, which is increasing by 100 to 120 megawatts annually. The company is conducting feasibility studies in the area while preparing to phase out thermal power in the next five years.
Alongside wind initiatives, KenGen plans to develop a solar plant and enhance geothermal production. The company's long-term strategy aims to add 1,500 megawatts of green energy to the grid over the next decade.
