Leonberg Unveils Largest Bio-Waste Facility in Baden-Württemberg with 72,000 Tonnes Annual Capacity

The new bio-waste facility in Leonberg, rebuilt after a devastating fire in 2019, now boasts a capacity of 72,000 tonnes per year. Operated by Bioabfallverwertung Leonberg (BVL), a partnership between Böblingen and Esslingen counties, it will also include Göppingen County next year.
The facility processes biomass into four valuable products: biomethane, liquid CO2, quality compost, and liquid fertilizer. The total investment is approximately 54 million euros, with funding from insurance, federal grants, and self-financing.
