The Lesotho Electricity Company (LEC) is undergoing a management overhaul amid corruption allegations and significant financial losses, reporting a deficit of M78 million for 2022/2023. The Lesotho government has appointed Ts'eliso 'Mokela as Acting Managing Director to implement restructuring measures, including reducing executive vehicle allocations and focusing on direct procurement. To address its financial struggles, LEC is pursuing tariff increases and has signed agreements for solar power generation to lessen dependence on expensive electricity imports from Eskom.
