Lithuania to Increase Gas Transit Revenue from Gazprom Agreement for Kaliningrad

NATURAL GAS

Lithuania and Russia are finalizing a new agreement for the transit of Russian natural gas to Kaliningrad, with Lithuania expecting its annual transit revenue to rise to approximately 29 million euros. Currently, the state-owned Amber Grid earns about 13 million euros annually from an existing ten-year agreement with Gazprom, which expires on January 1, 2026.

Lithuania's Energy Ministry notes the country receives up to 20 million euros per year. The new contract is expected to follow EU methodologies for gas transportation pricing, reflecting increased costs from Lithuania's investments in gas infrastructure.

Negotiations are ongoing between Amber Grid and Gazprom for a five-year contract. In 2024, gas transit to Kaliningrad through Lithuania is projected to increase by 9% to 26.1 TWh. Lithuania ceased importing Russian gas in April 2022, apart from transit to Kaliningrad.
