Luke Air Force Base Expands Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Programs to Enhance Combat Readiness

DEFENSE

Luke Air Force Base is enhancing its Small Unmanned Aircraft System (sUAS) programs through the 56th Fighter Wing Spark Cell, focusing on preparing Airmen for a rapidly evolving battlespace. The Spark Cell team is developing educational pathways, including a Part 107 drone course to certify Airmen as drone operators.

This initiative is gaining attention across the Air Force for its potential to standardize sUAS training. During Operation Desert Hammer, over 150 reservists received training in drone technology, highlighting the need for scalable education in the total force.

Future collaborations aim to enhance operational capabilities in areas such as perimeter security and reconnaissance. Luke's drone initiatives demonstrate the importance of innovation at the Airmen level to ensure combat readiness and adaptability in modern warfare.
