Maggot Infestation Reported at $1bn Genex Kidston Hydro Project

HYDRO POWER

Workers at the $1 billion Genex Pumped Storage Hydro Project in Kidston reported a maggot infestation in on-site food, prompting concerns over a potential gastro outbreak and criticism from the CFMEU regarding safety breaches. An investigation was initiated after the January 10 incident, although Genex confirmed that no workers have reported gastrointestinal symptoms. The project, which employs around 430 workers, is designed to manage surplus renewable energy through two reservoirs.
