Maharashtra to Establish India's First AI University, Targeting 400,000 IT Jobs and ₹50,600 Cr Investment
Maharashtra will establish India's first Artificial Intelligence (AI) University within six months, as announced by Ashish Shelar, Minister for Information Technology, at the World Hindu Economic Forum 2025. The initiative is part of a transition to AI-driven governance, with groundwork including task force recommendations and land identification already completed.
The university will focus on talent development, research, and innovation in AI, aligned with industry needs. The state aims to create 400,000 skilled IT jobs and attract ₹50,600 crore in investment for technology and digital infrastructure.
Additionally, Maharashtra is implementing a cybersecurity framework with Tier-1 and Tier-2 centers and a central cyber war room. The government is also targeting to attract 50% of global investments in Global Capability Centres through a dedicated policy offering incentives and simplified approvals.
