Matabeleland South province is optimistic about a bumper harvest in the 2025-26 agricultural season, thanks to favorable rains and the good condition of major cereal crops. Agricultural director Shupikai Sibanda highlighted ongoing weeding and fertilization efforts, while farmers are encouraged to plant sorghum, millet, and sunflower amidst monitoring for fall armyworm outbreaks. Chief Mathe noted improvements over previous years but raised concerns about seed maize supply, relying instead on support from the Zimbabwe National Army and NGOs.
