Minnesota Develops Large-Scale Aquifer Thermal Energy System for Heating and Cooling

GEOTHERMAL

A large-scale aquifer thermal energy system is being developed for The Heights, a mixed-use project in St. Paul, Minnesota, to provide heating and cooling by utilizing groundwater from an underground aquifer.

This initiative, part of a US Department of Energy clean energy effort, aims to serve 850 homes and several light-industrial buildings, potentially reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 74%. The $12 million project is expected to receive federal tax credits covering about 50% of the costs.
