Myanmar to Join Joint Convention on Safety of Spent Fuel and Radioactive Waste Management Amid Nuclear Project

Myanmar plans to join the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel and Radioactive Waste Management in relation to its small nuclear power plant project. Ambassador U Min Thein announced this during a meeting with IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi in Vienna.

The meeting addressed IAEA support for ASEAN countries' nuclear safety and security projects and discussed ongoing cooperation through ASEANTOM. Myanmar previously joined the Convention on Assistance in the Case of a Nuclear Accident or Radiological Emergency in 2022.
