Napa to Install Anaerobic Digestion System for Organic Waste to Renewable Natural Gas

NATURAL GASBIOFUELS

Napa is set to install an anaerobic digestion system to convert organic waste into renewable natural gas, powering garbage trucks. The City Council approved a memorandum of understanding with Napa Recycling to construct the $30 million system, with funding partially covered by a $10 million state grant.

The facility aims to process 32,000 to 44,000 tons of organic waste annually, producing enough gas for 36 waste collection trucks. The project complies with California's Senate Bill 1383, targeting a 75% reduction in food waste in landfills by 2025.
