Naval Air Station Meridian and the Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors signed Mississippi's first intergovernmental support agreement, focusing on road paving and sidewalks. This agreement allows for collaboration on infrastructure needs, leading to cost savings for the Navy and reinvestment into the local community.

The legislation permitting such agreements, Senate Bill 2434, was passed in June 2025. NAS Meridian plans to undertake annual paving projects for the next 10 years to resurface roads and maintain sidewalks.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to prepare the base for future needs, including an increase in student capacity and infrastructure upgrades. County officials emphasize the importance of the partnership for both the military and local community.
