National Petroleum Council Urges Streamlining of Oil and Gas Infrastructure Permitting
The National Petroleum Council, a federal advisory committee, was tasked in June with delivering reports on oil and natural gas infrastructure permitting and gas and electric coordination. In December, the Council recommended eliminating lengthy reviews and overlapping regulations that increase costs and hinder opportunities in permitting.
The committee emphasized the need for Congress to address these issues to improve decision-making efficiency. Energy Secretary Chris Wright had requested this study to support the President's Energy Goals through innovation and market-based solutions. Founded in 1946, the Council consists of 200 members appointed by the Secretary of Energy.
