Naval Submarine Base New London Conducts 53rd Change of Command Ceremony

DEFENSE

Naval Submarine Base New London (SUBASE) held its 53rd change of command on September 26, with Captain Kenneth M. Curtin, Jr. being relieved by Captain Craig E. Litty.

Curtin, who commanded SUBASE since September 2021, is the longest-tenured Commanding Officer and led significant improvements, including the completion of over $235M in energy reliability initiatives. Under his leadership, SUBASE received the 2024 Large Installation Excellence Award for superior performance.

His efforts fostered community partnerships and innovative Intergovernmental Service Agreements, saving the Navy significant costs on various projects. Furthermore, initiatives established at SUBASE, such as improved access for young sailors and maintenance request systems, have been adopted by other Navy installations. Curtin will transition to the Undersea Warfighting Development Center, remaining in the area.
