Navy Allocates $375 Million for Barracks Improvements Under Sailors First Initiative

The Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) is investing $375 million to enhance barracks safety, comfort, and cleanliness as part of the Barracks Task Force initiative. This funding aims to improve living conditions for Sailors in the Unaccompanied Housing program.

CNIC has identified immediate projects addressing safety repairs, cleanliness, maintenance, and upgrades to essential systems. Approximately $75 million will fund 95 projects across 50 installations, including kitchen modernizations and HVAC upgrades.

The remaining $300 million will support six major projects focused on energy efficiency, bathroom renovations, and infrastructure upgrades. Vice Adm. Scott Gray emphasized the necessity of providing quality housing as a responsibility to Sailors.

CNIC manages worldwide U.S. Navy Shore installations, ensuring the quality of life and operational readiness.
