The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is overseeing the construction of the new Leo Kerner Bridge, set to complete by mid-April 2027. This bridge will restore critical transportation between Barataria and Lafitte, damaged by Hurricane Ida.

The $55 million project funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will include roadway improvements along LA 45 at a cost of $7.9 million. The bridge will feature a moveable swing design and enhance access for both vehicles and marine navigation.
