New York State Approves 15-Year Energy Plan Aiming for Jobs and Cleaner Air by 2040

NATURAL GASFUSION & ADVANCED NUCLEAR POWERSOLAR ENERGY

New York state officials have approved a 15-year energy plan that aims to balance climate law with affordable utility bills. The plan focuses on increasing wind and solar energy while also acknowledging the necessity of natural gas and nuclear power for grid reliability.

It is projected to create 60,000 jobs and prevent 3,000 premature deaths by reducing pollution. The plan allows for the upgrading of existing power plants and promotes advanced nuclear technologies. Environmental groups criticized the plan for not eliminating oil and gas reliance, while business groups supported it for recognizing current infrastructure limitations for renewable energy.

The plan also includes provisions for transitioning buildings away from natural gas. Governor Kathy Hochul must decide on a bill related to the 100-foot rule that affects gas line connections by Friday.
