On February 24, a coalition of NGOs, including Opportunity Green, will challenge the European Commission's decision to classify fossil fuel-powered aircraft and ships as 'sustainable investments' under the EU Taxonomy. This follows the Commission's refusal to review the criteria after a request by the NGOs in early 2024.

The current criteria permit LNG vessels and conventional fossil-fuel aircraft to be labeled sustainable, risking long-term fossil fuel use. The ruling, expected in 9-11 months, could compel the Commission to revise these criteria.
